Press Release from the South African National Department of Agriculture
Due to the rapid distribution and invasion of Bactrocera Invadens into the SADC region of the African continent, the NPPO of South Africa needs to apply precautionary phytosanitary measures regarding the importation of host materials of B. Invadens from Zimbabwe into South Africa. This possibility has been communicated to the phytosanitary authorities of Zimbabwe after detection of B. Invadens in South Africa, which we have eradicated and are currently confirming successful eradication, following outbreaks in Zambia, Namibia, Mozambique and Botswana.

Fruta de Ouro Lda
Our trade partner in Mozambique is Fruta de Ouro Limitada. Fruta de Ouro Lda is based in the central provinces of Mozambique and is developing banana production in Joint ventures and its own ripening and wholesale depots. The first of these depots is in Tete, supplying ripened bananas, apples, citrus, potatoes and other main line fruit and vegetables to both the formal and informal markets. Additional depots will be developed in Beira and other main centres in the central province of Mozambique in due course. A joint venture, Frutimanica Limitada, currently has 40 ha of bananas and 30 ha of Litchis. Frutimanica has significant resources and banana production will be expanded to fill market shortages locally and through the region.Read More Zimban CC
Our trading partner in South Afica is Zimban CC. Zimban is a Close Corporation that was established in South Africa in 1992. Zimban's primary purpose is to import Matanuska's bananas and distribute them within South Africa. Zimban has a direct supply relationship with Freshmark, Farmers Trust in Pretoria and RSA Agents in Johannesburg.
